Super Tuesday

Massachusetts Morass Part 8: Cease and Desist detailed how MassGOP State Chairwoman Amy Carnevale finally issued a letter requesting that Sova stop naming himself chairman and stop sending emails “purporting to be the committee.”

However, in true milquetoast fashion, Carnevale ended her Strongly Worded Letter with this:

“We appreciate your enthusiasm for the Republican Party and welcome your involvement in ways that do not infringe on the rights of the existing committee.”1

Indeed, Sova continued his “involvement” in the Republican Party.

Before Super Tuesday

Clayton Sova, Cynthia Bjorlie, and their cohorts never ceased or desisted from calling fake meetings and pretending that their group was the legitimate committee. Sova continued to send out emails with the official GRCC logo, tag his personal email as Gloucester Republican City Committee, and sign himself as chairman.

Although these activities were being conducted in the usual way, the real and actual GRCC was able to hold regular, official meetings where real and actual Chairwoman Ashley Sullivan could work on bettering the Republican Party in Gloucester.

However, things started ramping up again leading into the March 5, 2024, Presidential Primary, Super Tuesday, when Sova sent out one of his deceptive emails, advertising a “Trump Caravan.”2

Chairwoman Sullivan was compelled to respond yet again:3

Sullivan went on to summarize how Sova and company had deceived the committee members and otherwise caused chaos. She made sure to emphasize that Sova’s emails were not official:

Super Tuesday

The Massachusetts Presidential Primary was held on March 5, with President Trump seeing a resounding victory. Niki Haley’s weak performance, despite a hearty attempt by unaffiliated Democrats to play spoiler by voting the Republican ballot, is an indicator of just how popular DJT is across the country and in Massachusetts, despite media claims to the contrary. With noticeable grumbling and harumphing, MassGOP Chair Amy Carnevale also claims to support Trump. (One wonders if she crosses her fingers behind her back when she says it.)

Focusing on Gloucester, there was a bit of a kerfuffle in the Republican State Committeeman race for the First Essex and Middlesex District, where a vote recount was requested after a discrepancy. Self-proclaimed, fake “chairman” Clayton Sova had been declared the winner on election night, beating out Michael Scarlata and Jeff Yull. Soon after, real and actual GRCC Chairwoman Ashley Sullivan and Yull noticed a mistake on the unofficial results tally sheet. A total hand recount was scheduled, and Sova sent out an all-hands-on-deck notice to his supporters, looking for volunteers.

Notice that Sova blames his apparent loss on “late arriving mail-in ballots,”  co-opting a known method of stealing votes in the 2020 election. Was he trying to paint himself as a martyr and his opposition as cheaters, thereby attempting to align himself with Trump’s plight?

His cronies were able to fill several volunteer slots for the recount. See if any names look familiar on these screengrabs:

But Sova’s effort was thwarted in the final, certified results.

In the race to replace State Committeewoman Amanda Orlando, Lisa-Marie Cashman came out on top, beating Ashley Sullivan and—more importantly—denying the seat to Cynthia Bjorlie and Nicole Coles, who had been voted out of the real and actual GRCC last summer.

None of the ex-communicated cabal members who ran for State Committee garnered enough votes. However, one might wonder how Sova came so close to winning, given his bad actions toward the GRCC. It would be better to think that voters were unaware rather than apathetic to his plotting an insurgent takeover, filing fraudulent documents, faking chairmanship, and sending deceptive emails.

Not to be deterred, Sova, Bjorlie, and their cohorts set their sights back to the original task: The GRCC takeover.
