Will the towns in 3rd Bristol & Plymouth cede their voice to the Taunton mayor?

On November 7th, 2023, Shaunna O’Connell won her re-election bid for mayor of Taunton, MA. Days later, she filed to run for Republican State Committee. As covered in a previous article titled Did You Know: The Crucial Role of State Committee Representative in Massachusetts, the responsibilities of an elected State Committee Representative are no small feat.

From the article:

“In Massachusetts politics, State Committee Representatives are key architects of American governance. These volunteer representatives play a pivotal role in shaping the political landscape of the Commonwealth. Their duties extend far beyond the committee room, reaching into the heart of local communities and resonating with the ideals upon which the state was founded.”

“State Committee Representatives in Massachusetts shape party policies, engage constituents, recruit candidates, coordinate elections, and foster community involvement.”

Shaunna O’Connell will be responsible for “shaping the political landscape” in Taunton and nine other towns if she wins that second elected position.

On Tuesday, January 2, 2024, Democrat U. S. Representative Jake Auchincloss had the honor of swearing in Mayor Shaunna O’Connell at her inauguration ceremony.

While one might applaud her for reaching across party lines to encourage a sense of unity within the community, as a voter, you might want to dig a little deeper into what Jake Auchincloss supports and represents. If you haven’t read Elite Family Matters: Connecting the Auchincloss Dots, you will want to do so.

Shaunna O’Connell is currently dealing with a migrant crisis within her city. Jake Auchincloss supports tax-payer funding to help migrants find shelter and jobs, offer an expedited pathway to citizenship, etc. Jake Auchincloss also supports global vaccination efforts.

While Shaunna O’Connell hobnobs with Democrats and holds ritzy inaugural balls for herself, some have speculated that she was installed as a RINO (Republican In Name Only) to support a Democratic political agenda. With Shaunna O’Connell’s seemingly close ties to a U. S. Representative who does not share Republican or Conservative values, one might understandably question the connection.

While we may never know what goes on behind closed doors with politicians, voters must ask themselves on Tuesday, March 5th:

Does Mayor Shaunna O’Connell of Taunton need more power and control over governmental policies than she already has?
