Increasing numbers of migrant children with health issues are entering the state.

Over the past year, the Biden administration’s Health and Human Services Department has released migrant children who tested positive for tuberculosis into the population. A recent court-ordered report obtained by the Washington Times states that 126,000 migrant children were released over the past year with an infection rate of 1 in 50 children or just under 2,500 infected children. The children were spread across 44 states. The HHS states that since the children are only in their care for a short time, they cannot treat the infection, which usually takes three to nine months. [1]

According to the CDC, 8,300 cases of Tuberculosis were reported in 2022, and 7,874 cases were reported in 2021 across the United States.[2] With the release of approximately 2,500 infected migrant children, this number will go up. How many migrant children were sent to Massachusetts? Did we receive more since we’re a “Right to Shelter” state? (see our story Did You Know? Right to Shelter)

In July 2023, the enVision Hotel in Everett, MA, which provides housing for close to 300 migrants, recently had a flu-like outbreak spread across the individuals staying there. Health professionals from Mass General Hospital went to the hotel to test individuals for Covid and Tuberculosis.[3]

The last time I was sick, I had to go to the doctor, wait a few hours to be seen, and pay the bill. I wonder who is footing their bill?

The landscape of Massachusetts is changing fast. We are a state with limited resources expected to help out anyone who enters it. This situation, unfortunately, is a disaster waiting to happen.

So, what can you do? We need good people to run for election. It could be as simple as your local school committee or even the U. S. Congress. This fall, towns and cities across Massachusetts will vote in mayoral races. Place signs in your yard or spread the word to encourage people to exercise their right to vote. Our state is changing, and if we don’t all work together, we may not like where we end up.
