Watch out. It’s dumber than you think.

Because the Karen Read Trial has been clogging our feeds for so long, it’s been at the top of my mind. Even though it’s at the end, I decided to squeeze out one last drop of relevance (I kid) by using the topic in a query to test the functionality of Perplexity.ai

[ i type in all lower case for speed when not publishing, please don’t judge me]

Question 1

I already knew the answer and was surprised when it came back incorrect. This is a great way to test new tools. Begin with a known outcome and see if it works properly.

Question 2

Okay…

Question 3

Starting to sound like a Lally line of reasoning…

My last question was more of a sarcastic comment. (The danger of anthropomorphizing machines!)

Question 4

I beat the Perplexity AI into submission in four easy steps.

What’s the takeaway? AI can be useful, but like Wikipedia, never use it as your only source of information. The results you get depend entirely on the algorithms and the people who wrote them.

I encourage everyone to play around with various ai programs. It can be fun!
