The Taunton city municipal and mayor election was held on Tuesday, November 7th, 2022.
A summary of results:
| Candidate | Votes | Percent |
| Shaunna L.O’Connell | 5.276 | 58.73% |
| Edward A. Corriera | 3.673 | 22.33% |
Only 9,152 out of 40,986 registered voters voted—a 22.33% voter participation rate. In 2021, O’Connell collected 4,369 out of 7002 votes cast—an 18.9% voter participation rate. In 2019, O’Connell won her first term as mayor with 10,800 votes (62% ) and a 32% registered voter turnout.
According to records from Massachusetts OCPF, O’Connell spent $145,059.29 between her last election in 2019 and her re-election last November. Her challenger, Corriera, spent $58,556.82 during the 2023 race.
Since being elected Mayor in 2019, Mayor O’Connell has been testing the waters to run for higher office. In 2022, she considered a run for governor but ultimately decided not to run. After winning the mayoral race in Taunton, O’Connell mysteriously filed to run for Republican State Committee for the 3rd Bristol and Plymouth district. She is on the ballot running against incumbent State Committeewoman Maria S. Collins.
O’Connell is a rare Republican in Massachusetts who wins elections, so she has significant support in the Republican Party and local conservative media.
On the other hand, incumbent Collins was endorsed by the conservative newspaper, the Boston Broadside:

In a report from Politico, no high-profile Republican in the state has declared a run against Sen. Elizabeth Warren. Massachusetts GOP Committee Chairwoman Amy Carnevale has said she is talking to two unnamed prospects. Is one of them Mayor O’Connell? How many “high-profile” Republicans are there in Massachusetts? Time will tell.
