Have you noticed lately that your dishwasher isn’t living up to its intended job? Are your dishes not being cleaned as well as you’d like? Before you think of replacing it or having it serviced, check to see if the filter is dirty. Many people are unaware their dishwasher has a filter, but knowing its location and how to clean it could save you a lot of money. Here’s how:

Step One: Open the dishwasher door and locate your filter. If you don’t know where to look, refer to your user manual. If you don’t have that handy, find your dishwasher’s model number (usually located on the inside rim of the door) and do a quick online search for the user manual.

Step 2: Once the filter is located, you will want to remove it. You will likely have to unscrew it to remove it, but some models require a wrench or a pair of pliers.

Step 3: Once removed, clean the filter in your sink with some good old-fashioned soap and water. You may also want to wipe the area where the filter is held inside the dishwasher.

Step 4: Replace the filter into its original spot and do a test run with some dishes to see if this made a difference.
