Preliminary Election Results
Haverhill held its preliminary election on September 12th. Here are the results before a recount:[i]

Melinda Barret will likely be the next Mayor of Haverhill, having received almost 60% of the vote in a preliminary election. Surprisingly, second-place finisher Scott Wood withdrew from the election. Scott Cooper has filed for a recount scheduled for Wednesday, September 27th.
Wood’s withdrawal puts Cooper on the ballot versus Barrett in the final election scheduled for November 7th.
We expect to hear some of the same issues from the preliminary race. Infrastructure will likely be one of them with recent heavy rains causing a 20-foot sinkhole to open up. Repairs were estimated to be $1 million.[1]
Schools and public safety are also likely to arise. The city recently introduced an ID bus pass system for kindergartners and first graders. The system enables school administrators to tell parents when and where their child got off the bus if they do not arrive home when expected.[2]
