Governor Healy is implementing a failed immigration template
On August 1st, 2022, New York City Mayor Eric Adams stated, “New York is a city of immigrants, and we will always welcome newcomers with open arms.”

On October 7th, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams of New York City declared a state of emergency due to the rising number of immigrants arriving there, stating, “We can no longer wait — and this declaration will allow the city to procure sorely needed additional resources as quickly as possible.”
At the time, Adams said the city was providing shelter to 60,000 homeless, of which 20,000 were children. An estimated 100,000 additional immigrants would arrive within one year if the pace continued. NYC converted over 40 hotels into shelters to alleviate the housing stress. History indicates that this was the most significant number of people needing shelter in New York City.
Fast forward to August 2023, ten months after the State of Emergency was declared. The Row NYC hotel, previously a hotspot for those seeking a place with a trendy vibe, has been turned into a shelter for immigrants. The hotel staff witnessed their once-beloved workspace self-destruct. The Row became rife with drug and alcohol abuse and out-of-control violence inside the building.

New York City has run out of hotel space, forcing immigrants to sleep on the streets. A few days ago, immigrants were seen sleeping outside The Roosevelt Hotel, hoping to find shelter.

On Thursday, August 10th, Mayor Adams told CBS Mornings, “New York City is the economic engine of this entire state and country…If you decimate this city, you’re going to decimate the foundation of what’s happening. … What you saw at Roosevelt a few days ago is because the dam finally burst.”
On Tuesday, August 6th, 2023, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey declared a state of emergency due to the significant increase in immigrant arrivals.

The state currently provides shelter to over 20,000 people, and more than forty hotels and motels have been converted into emergency shelters for immigrants. In her press conference, Healey stated that this is more people than the state has ever served, and the number is expected to grow.
We’ve seen what has happened to New York. Could this be a window into Massachusetts’ future?
