A Book Review

A note from the author, Denise Hansen:
This is a true story of a mother’s distress (myself) and my addicted son Shane. It focuses on the justice system and how I believed it failed him because addiction is a disease, and addicts need treatment. Addiction can and will cause criminal activity, but I never knew what was ahead for him. I started writing this book in 2014 while Shane was incarcerated for the crimes he committed. Shane was a funny kid who was great at sports. He had one sibling, Rachael, who was seven years older, but a wonderful big sister, even though they had different dads. Somehow, Rachael and Shane went in two different directions. I know that many families have endured the same pain I have gone through.
Book Review:
Mental health is in crisis across the country.
Denise thanked President Donald J Trump for writing to the prison warden to support her son during his health crisis. The letter is detailed in the book. Denise feels this book would help to educate young adults about the effects of drug use on themselves and their loved ones.
Denise Hansen’s book “Addiction, the Bureau of Prisons and a Mother’s Broken Heart” is compelling, honest, and from the heart. A must-read to see the inside of the broken justice system handed down to young people needing mental health help. This story brings us from a place of hell, the hope that no matter what, addicts and their families can survive, grow, and become successful—and especially—heal. ~ J. Briordy
