In college, my roommates and I would often look for places to go hiking and explore the natural beauty of the surrounding area. We had traveled to many gorgeous places in Southern Worcester County, but few caught our interest like Moore State Park in Paxton, MA. Its lush environment, filled with waterfalls, sawmills, flowers, fields, forests, and places to fish, immediately provides a sense of beauty and opportunity.

Entering the park, you are greeted with several acres of gorgeous grassland to your right as you approach the parking area on the left. If you enter the park on the concrete path (in the spring and early summer), you are often treated to a colorful entryway adorned with beautiful and fragrant flowers. Next, you are brought to a cozy, comfortable fishing area complimented by a breathtaking waterfall. Moving further, you are treated to a sawmill and many areas for a picnic lunch. The view I have described is only the beginning, as you have many trails and abundant forests to explore. Moore State Park is over 400 acres and has been a popular spot for many sawmills since the 18th Century.
Now that I am older and have a family of my own, we often travel to Moore State Park and partake in many of the same sites and beauty that my friends and I experienced so long ago. So many memorable moments have occurred at Moore State Park. Isn’t it time you make some of your own?
Moore State Park is located at 1 Sawmill Road, Paxton, MA.
